On Tuesday, December 10, Ambassador Nikolaj Harris presented his credentials to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, officially becoming the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Canada.
He has previously served as Ambassador to Morocco and Mauritania, and has also had diplomatic postings as Deputy Head of Mission in Lithuania, Turikiye, and Egypt. Before coming to Canada, Ambassador Harris served as Director for Consular Affairs and Crisis Management at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen.
Ambassador Harris completed a Masters Degree in Political Science and Contemporary History with a thesis on NATO's expansion to the east. Following his graduation, he became a plenipotentiary diplomat in Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was assigned Africa as a region before going on to his diplomatic postings.
Ambassador Harris is the son of Danish theatre director and actor Preben Harris. As a teenager, he had a role in the Danish television series Matador, playing the son of the character played by his father.
He has arrived in Canada at the perfect time to start mastering three of his stated goals: learning to cross-country ski, improving his skating to enjoy our Rideau Canal, and becoming hockey literate (and a Senators fan we hope!)
We welcome Ambassador Harris to Canada and hope he enjoys his stay here. As an. Honorary Member of the Canadian Nordic Society, we look forward to meeting him!
